And likewise, he deserves a place in the timeless international cinema for "Zorba the Greek", and of course there is "Electra", which begun his study of the ancient Greek tragedy and its adaptation to the silver screen, that earned him the prestige of the inspirational auteur and the intellectual who has a deep knowledge and opinion concerning his art. Although Michael Cacoyannis was not only involved in filmmaking, it was his filmic work that distinguished and characterized him even when he was engaged in Greece and abroad with the theater, opera or the television. Moreover there were all the nominations for the Oscars, the awards at the most important festivals, the respect he gained on an interna-tional level... From all perspectives, Michael Cacoyannis, in the eyes of the people living abroad, whether they are cinema experts or simply audiences, besides being a great auteur, he EMBODIES the Greek cinema.
