Constantine P. Cavafy stands as one of the most luminous voices of modern Greek poetry — a poet who, from his quiet desk in cosmopolitan Alexandria, reshaped the language of memory, desire, and history.
In this carefully curated collection, Echoes of Cavafy brings together some of his most celebrated poems—from the introspective Candles to the philosophical Ithaka and the timeless allegory of Waiting for the Barbarians. Through these poems, the reader enters a world where ancient history converses with modern experience, and where the grandeur and decline of civilizations mirror the inner struggles of the soul.
With clarity and emotional depth, Cavafy transforms the past into a living metaphor for human endurance and self-awareness. His verses linger between irony and tenderness, wisdom and melancholy, offering not mere lessons but revelations about what it means to live, to love, to remember.
