Η Νέλλη Καψή σπούδασε νομικά στη Νομική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών. Από τα φοιτητικά της χρόνια ασχολήθηκε με τη δημοσιογραφία, αρχικά ως συντάκτρια ειδήσεων σε ραδιοφωνικούς σταθμούς και στη συνέχεια ως αρθρογράφος σε περιοδικά. Έχει αρθρογραφήσει σε πολλές οικονομικές εφημερίδες και περιοδικά, ενώ είναι μόνιμη συνεργάτης του περιοδικού "Οικονομική Επιθεώρηση" από το 2000. Τον Οκτώβριο του 2003 ανέλαβε την αρχισυνταξία και παρουσίαση της οικονομικής εκπομπής "Οικονομική Επιθεώρηση" που παρουσιαζόταν από την ΕΤ3.
