For more than ten years, Jacoline Vinke has been travelling all over Greece searching for exceptional small hotels and guesthouses. She has been to 48 islands and to almost every corner of the mainland. In this book, she presents her 222 favourite discoveries, places marked by character, charm, beauty, warmth and friendliness. Most are in historical buildings, many are off the beaten track, and each is unique. An appealing guesthouse that won’t blow the budget, a spoil-me-rotten honeymoon hotel, a bed and breakfast right by the sea, a family-run little hotel in town or a cosy mountain retreat - whatever you are looking for, you will find it here. Take this book with you when you travel to Greece and you will experience the country at its very best. Author Jacoline Vinke was born and raised in the Netherlands. After studying at the University of Amsterdam and the London School of Economics, she worked for ten years as an economist at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Paris, before moving to Greece with her husband and two sons. What started off as weekend escapes from Athens became a new career as a travel writer, as she discovered unique small hotels and guesthouses throughout Greece. This is her third book on the subject. The first two, Great Small Hotels in Greece (Explorer, 2002) and Around Greece in 80 Stays (Road Editions, 2006) definitely helped put Greece on the map as a country with charming and stylish places to stay and not only as a beach holiday destination. Many of Jacoline’s discoveries, old and new, can be found on her website www.smallhotelsingreece.com. After graduating in still-life photography at the Instituto Europeodi Design in Rome, her camera has taken her all over the world. She covers a broad range of subjects, including travel, interiors, architecture, lifestyle and industrial photography. Her work is highly evocative, making use of natural light and the unadorned environment. Interior and travel photography are her greatest passions and her depictions of the most distinctive houses and contemporary buildings in Greece have been published in numerous Greek and international magazines. Marie Claire, Conde Nast Traveller, The Guardian Weekend, Vogue, Maison Decoration, Elle, Madame Figaro and Interni are only a few of the publications in which her work has appeared. Julia Klimi also has several bestselling books to her name, most notably At Home in Greece (2004) and Style City Athens (2006, part of the Style City series), both published by Thames & Hudson.
