The main philosophy of solid waste management considers solid waste as a "substance resource of raw material and renewable energy". Thus, the two basic principles in solid waste management are "recovery of material" and "recovery of renewable energy". The European Union has set diverse targets to face the key issues for the future. Safery, sustainability, and environmental soundness of energy supply are among them as well as resource efficiency. Recovered wood addresses both key issues. The most important management options for recovered wood are at the present: - reuse or recycling as secondary raw material - energy generation The main objectives of this conference are to summarize: -the current state of the art for management of recovered wood in Europe and U.S. and -to improve the management ob recovered wood in Europe towards higher common technical, economical and environmental standards.[...]
